Yao Xinzhong (1957-) is Professor of Ethics at the School of Philosophy at Renmin University of China in Beijing. He is also Vice Director of the World Ethics Institute Beijing at Peking University, Chair Professor of the Changjiang Scholars Program, and a ‘High-level Foreign Expert’ at SAFEA. Prof. Yao’s major research interests straddle the fields of Ethics and Religious Studies, with a particular focus on Confucianism. Among other academic honours, Prof. Yao has been Dean of the School of Philosophy at Renmin University of China, Head of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Wales, Professor and Director of the China Institute at King's College London, and Senior Research Fellow at Oxford University. Professor Yao has contributed dozens of research articles to leading philosophical journals including Asian Philosophy, Philosophy East and West and the Journal of Chinese Philosophy. His best-known books include On Moral Activity (1990), Confucianism and Christianity--A Comparative Study of Jen and Agape (1996), An Introduction to Confucianism (2000), and Wisdom in Early Confucianism and Judaism (2006).
