Mr. FU Chengyu has spent more than forty years in the oil industry, culminating in stints as Board Chairman and CEO of the China National Offshore Oil Corporation and Chairman of the China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec). Other roles in government and civil society have included membership of the 12th CPCCC Standing Committee and the United Nations Global Compact Network Council, chairmanship of the China Global Compact Network, and advisory roles at the University of Southern California and Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy.
In 2004, Fu was named Asian Oil and Gas CEO of the Year; in 2005, China’s CCTV recognised him as one of its ‘Leading Economic Personalities’, while Time magazine ranked him 14th on a list of the world’s most influential people; in 2006, The Economist awarded Fu one of ten Strategic Vision Awards for Chinese business people; in 2007, he was Asia Money’s pick for Senior Executive of the Year; in 2008, he was Fortune’s Most Influential Chinese Business Leader; in 2011, he made Fortune’s list of Top 50 Global Business Leaders; in 2012, he repeated the feat, and was also one of the Wall Street Journal’s ’12 Global Business Leaders to Watch’ and the Energy Intelligence Group’s choice for Global Petroleum Industry Leader of the Year; in 2013, he won Yale University’s Legend in Leadership Award; in 2014, he was named S & P Global Platts Asian CEO of the Year. He has also been recognized by the United Nations Environment Programme for his outstanding global leadership.
