Ovid J.-L. Tzeng (1944-) has been a Fellow of the Taiwanese Academia Sinica since 1994, a Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences since 2010, and a Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts since 2017. After graduating from Pennsylvania State University, Tzeng held academic positions at the University of California and Yale University before return to Taiwan. Stints the helm of the Psychology Department, Cognitive Science Research Centre and College of Humanities and Social Sciences at National Cheng Chung University were followed by leadership positions at National Yang Ming University, the “Taiwanese Ministry of Education” and Academia Sinica.
A renowned storyteller, Tzeng has described his educational philosophy as one of marrying ‘humanistic concern’ and a scientific spirit of ‘loyalty to the facts’. Beyond the ivory tower, Tzeng’s wideranging engagement as a public intellectual has made him one of the leading Taiwanese voices of his generation on the global stage.
