Speech by Dean Tu Weiming at London's Royal College of Art
Date:2014-05-19

On May 19, 2014, 7:00 p.m., Professor Tu Weiming, Dean of the Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies at Peking University, was invited to deliver a speech on dialogue between civilization and multi-civilization at London's Royal College of Art to celebrate the 90th birthday of Doctor Henry Kissinger.

Dean Tu Weiming explained "spiritual humanism" and believed it would be a cultural feature for the 21st century and a common character of global spiritual culture, even a maximum common divisor for human harmony. "Spiritual humanism" respects cultural difference and praises religious diversity, and encourages open dialogue between countries. According to Professor Tu Weiming, lack of knowledge on cultural diversity in a global world will lead to wrong hypothesis of cultural homogenization, thus resulting in cultural misunderstanding, even conflicts between countries.

Doctor Henry Kissinger spoke highly of Dean Tu Weiming's speech. A total of 200 elites from all circles came and listened to Dean Tu's speech.
