JOB DESCRIPTION




The Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies at Peking University seeks a postdoctoral fellow to work on traditional Chinese culture and Tu Weiming’s chronicle. 

The Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies at Peking University (IAHS), a research and teaching institution that specializes in academic research, academic exchange, and fostering talents, was founded in 2008 and inaugurated on 28 September 2012. Deeply rooted in Chinese tradition, IAHS promotes academic research of international and creative significance to promote interdisciplinary collaboration within the humanities, between the humanities and social sciences, and between the humanities and natural sciences, to deepen the self-reflexivity of Chinese traditional culture, and to realize its creative developments and transformations. The founding director of IAHS is Professor Tu Weiming.

Applications are invited from candidates who hold a doctoral degree in humanities. The successful applicant will have published in relevant high impact journals (commensurate with their level of research experience). Candidates must possess a Ph.D. (have completed and passed their Viva before commencement of the post) and be able to demonstrate a track record in their career too. We are especially encouraging Chinese philosophy researchers with a focus on Confucianism to apply. Interest/experience in chronicle compilation and academic events organization are desirable. 

Fellows must register as a full-time faculty for the duration of the Fellowship term to avail of the tax-free bursary.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Age under 35 years old and received your Ph.D. no more than three years prior to the formal registration. Researchers holding a tenure or tenure-track faculty position are not eligible to apply.

  • Fluency in English.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and collaborative team spirit.

APPLICATION MATERIALS



  • Curriculum vitae

  • A two-year research proposal (within 3,000 words) in an area of research aligned in those of IAHS. The topics can be general in 'Cultural China', 'Civilizational Dialogue', 'Reflections on the Enlightenment', 'the Third Phase of Confucianism', and 'Business Ethics'. 

  • Academic achievements supporting documents, including at least two representative papers in Chinese/English

  • Two recommendation letters (including one from the applicant’s doctoral supervisor), the letters should be sent to the corresponding coordinator directly by the referees;

  • Ph.D. degree certificates scanned copy

  • Other supporting documents
