The conference was held to discuss the stimulating Chinese intellectual scene in the 1980s, centering on the intellectual activities of Li Zehou, a prominent and original thinker active in the period. Prof. Yang Xusheng organized the conference by inviting more than 30 scholars to present on the topic. Select papers of the conference were published in the periodical Kaifang shidai, 2011 vol. 11.
